STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s theatrical program begins its 2018-19 lineup of productions this week with J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit.”
Theatre 鶹AV will give public performances Thursday [Sept. 27] at 7 p.m. and Sunday [Sept. 30] at 2 p.m. in the McComas Hall theater.
Tickets are available at the box office one hour prior to each show and are $12 for the general public, $7 for 鶹AV students and children 12 years of age and under. Tickets also are available for advance purchase online at .
Tim Matheny, 鶹AV assistant professor of theatre, is directing the performances of Edward Mast’s adaptation of the Tolkien classic. The show features various special effects and involves a cast and crew of 25 鶹AV students working together to bring the world of “The Hobbit” to the stage.
“Many people will have read the novel or watched the films,” Matheny said. “This is a new way for fans to experience Tolkien’s story of adventure.”
Theatre 鶹AV also is presenting matinees for elementary students at local schools. Part of 鶹AV’s Department of Communication, Theatre 鶹AV has worked with area teachers to provide complementary educational materials.
